One Law of Attraction, Two Bodies
The law of attraction is known for the propositions “we create our own reality” and “like attracts like”. Underlying both tenets is the belief that thoughts are energy, that positive thoughts will attract positive energy and abundance—the good kind—into our lives. Think positive thoughts and good things are sure to follow, and vice versa—so says the law of attraction.
But is thinking positive enough? No. If it were, everyone would think positive thoughts and lead the lives they wished. We’d all be rich or married to the perfect partner, have the perfect job, live in our dream homes, or all of these things. We know though that thinking positive thoughts doesn’t always yield these sorts of results. The reason for this is that the law of attraction is an overly simplistic rule that assumes we are whole and perfect human beings.
The truth is we’re not perfect. Nor are we whole. We have two bodies. We have a physical body and an energetic one.
We’re familiar with our physical bodies. We use our physical bodies to interact with the world. They are our sensory companions. With them, we see, feel, taste, touch and smell. We experience life’s joys and sorrows, its ups and downs, pleasure and pain, and we emote with them too. Our physical bodies can know the freedom that comes from driving an open road with the top down or the calm, soothing sounds of the ocean surf washing up on a sandy shore.
Our energetic body, on the other hand, helps choreograph how we live each day, each month, the chapters of our lives. Our energetic body affects how our physical body interacts with the world too, but on a different level. Known by other names like the luminous energy field, the soul, and the aura, the energetic body can help us tune into and engage the hidden realm of energy. Just as our physical bodies are a complex system of organs and cells, our energetic bodies are no less intricate. Like blood pumping through a circulatory system, energy vibrates throughout our soul.
It would be nice to believe that everyone’s soul vibrates at the same rate but that’s not the way it works. Our souls vibrate at different rates. Some faster, some slower. Though we associate energy that vibrates fast as being positive and energy that vibrates slowly with being negative, there is nothing inherently positive or negative about energy. Energy simply vibrates. There’s one caveat to this. Positive energy can provide us with a life boost whereas negative energy can weigh us down.
Let’s take an example. We’ve all encountered the person who lights up a room with their mere presence. They radiate and glow positive vibes throughout the room. They possess a certain magical quality that can’t be explained. All we know is this. We want to be around this person. In contrast, we’ve also experienced the person who’s always in a gloomy mood, the one who casts a shadow into that same room and for the most part, the person people stay away from. Get to know both on personal levels and we discover they’re both very nice persons.
If we accept the law of attraction at its full face value, the person who lights up the room ought to attract positive people and abundance to their life. But is this always the case? In some circumstances, yes. In others, no. This is where the nuances of the energetic body come into play.
Over time, and throughout the course of our lives, we accumulate dense, slow moving energies that become stuck in our soul. For example, traumas we encounter along the way—a divorce, a serious illness—can leave behind dense energies. The more the soul is gunked up with dense energies, the slower the soul vibrates, and the more we’re weighed down making it hard to achieve our life’s goals.
When the soul vibrates slower than its norm, positive thinking can be a futile exercise. The reason for this is the soul trumps what the mind puts out. So, even though the mind is sending out positive thoughts, we tend to attract energies that match the vibration rate of our soul.
Though this may sound dismal, but there is a solution. In order for positive thinking to be effective, a person must first clear their energetic body of any dense energies that are getting in the way so that both the mind and the soul can be in congruence. We’ll explore this more in the next post.
